Police officers play a very important role in the society as they keep it safe; however, the job can be stressful and dangerous. Police officers should be the type of an individual with a strong sense of duty and responsibility. It’s more than that and the goal of becoming a police office can only be accomplished with careful planning, hard work, and determination. Here’s how:

Step 1: The Educational Requirement

Complete a high school education. To be accepted as a police officer, you need a high school diploma or certificate or its equivalent. Get higher education. This isn’t really required; however, getting a 2-year degree (associate degree) or a 4-year degree (bachelor’s degree) is highly recommended as this is helpful in the competitive application process. It would also help you if you could take up criminal justice courses.

Step 2: The Physical Requirement

Keep fit and healthy. Playing sports can help you stay fit and look good on your application as a police officer. Physical fitness is very important for anyone who wants to become a police officer, as you will have to take several physical tests.

Step 3: The Behavioral Requirement

Be responsible. If you really want to become a policeman, you have to be responsible for actions and cannot be ever convicted with felony. Police academy candidates have background checks running on them, and even if you have never been convicted of felony, other things can still be a red flag. Examples of these are traffic and drug violation.

Step 4: The Test Requirements

Take and pass the civil service exam. Police departments give the civil service examination. Be prepared and make use of the classes and study guides available for the civil service examination.Take more tests and examinations.
